Web Mapping Assignment

To learn about Web Mapping in my Hacking the Humanities Class, we created a map displaying the squirrel population of Central Park. I made my map using ArcGIS. I started with a blank map and uploaded a CSV of the NYTimes Squirrel data. I then overlayed a population and forest type map. The dark red background color surrounding Central Park shows the high population of New York City. There isn’t much forest type data within the city, but if you zoom out you are able to see the variety of forest types in the United states. The dots on Central Park represent each squirrel. The color differences in the dots represent the ages of the squirrels recorded. The red ones are adult, the blue ones are juvenile and the green dots represent squirrels where there is no recorded age. I hope you enjoy my map!
